Frequently asked questions
What is Fintaric?
Answer: Fintaric is a tariff information service published by Finnish Customs. It is a database containing the information of TARIC, i.e. the integrated customs tariff of the EU (which is published by the Commission) as well as information about the national taxes and restrictions of Finland. The Fintaric online service is intended for both employees of companies and Customs employees who need information about commodity codes in their daily work and have basic knowledge of tariff classification.
The legal basis for TARIC (provided by the EU) is Council Regulation (EEC) No 2658/87 of 23 July 1987 on the tariff and statistical nomenclature and on the Common Customs Tariff (OJ L 256, 7 September 1987).
In what way is Fintaric different from the TARIC database provided by the Commission?
Answer: Fintaric contains EU tariff information but also information about Finland’s own national taxes and restrictions. Fintaric is administered by Finnish Customs. Fintaric also provides a tool for calculating roughly how much duties and taxes you have to pay for your goods.
Can I download Fintaric information to my own system?
Answer: Yes. The Fintaric information can be machine-read and downloaded to your company’s own information system. The Fintaric distribution service is available via the Suomi.fi portal.
How often is Fintaric updated? Is the information available in real time?
Answer: Yes, the information is available in real time. Fintaric is updated in accordance with the TARIC information received from the Commission.
